Ceremony of Nuclear Smuggling Detection Equipment at the CBRN Regional Training Center
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence, will help Tajikistan’s security forces combat the smuggling of nuclear and radioactive material. This donation is the first phase of assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy to the State Committee for National Security.

The 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference
On August 16-19, 2021 was held the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference "The Role of Women Scientists in the Development of Science, Innovation and Technology", organized by the WiN Tajikistan at the Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NRSA NAST).
In order to further strengthen Tajikistan capacities in preventing illegal proliferation of potentially dangerous chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (CBRN) materials, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe handed over two minivan vehicles to the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NRSA NAST).

Training Course on the “Conduct of National Inspections”
A Training Course on the “Conduct of National Inspections” was held in the Regional Training Center on Weapons of Mass Destruction Non-Proliferation and Export Control for Courtiers of Central Asia, Caucasus and Afghanistan of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan from April 12 to April 16, 2021.
On the 8th of April, on the second day of working visit to cities and provinces of Sughd region, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon arrived in Istaravshan city. The President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon commissioned the new building of the Mother and Child Support Center “Farzandi Vatan” and familiarized with the conditions at the Center.

Review of the work plan on “Stakeholders engagement for uranium legacy remediation in Central Asia”
On March 26, 2021, in the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency (NRSA) conference hall an official meeting was organized with the representatives of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, UNDP Tajikistan, NRSA NAST, the MFA of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, and other parties directly involved in the implementation of the project regarding review of the annual work plan for the project.

At the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, an employee of the branch of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency in the Sogd Region, Ermatov Komilzhon Abdulmalikovich defended his thesis for a candidate of technical sciences on the topic: "Water migration of uranium and radon in the territory of northern Tajikistan" on January 28.

On January 11, 2021, the Nuclear and radiation safety agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NRSA NAST) hosted a monthly meeting for members of the “Nuclear Women” Club. On January 4, 2021, a monthly meeting has been held at the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the National Academy of Science of Tajikistan (NRSA NAST) to discuss current issues and plans for the upcoming year. The Director thanked the staff of NRSA NAST for successfully achieved results in the accomplishment of the goals and objectives in 2020.

Beautification and landscaping in the NRSA
The purpose of landscaping and greening works the area of the Regional Training Center at the NRSA has been cleared, dry trees have been replaced by new seedlings. Moreover, the football field of the Regional Training Center at the NRSA has been improved.

WHO COVID-19 Mass Gatherings Risk Assessment Training
The purpose of this course is to provide guidance for health authorities and organizers of mass gatherings in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the specific aim of containing risks associated with transmission of this infection.

Health systems around the world are being challenged by increasing demand for care of COVID-19 patients, it is critical to maintain preventive and curative services, especially for the most vulnerable populations, such as children, older persons, people living with chronic conditions, minorities and people living with disabilities.
On 23rd September 2020 official ceremony of COVID-19 detection equipment transfer to Ministry of Health and social protection of population took place. Equipment was provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through the project INT0098 for strengthening the national capacities of designated laboratories in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
On September 22, 2020, on the margins of the IAEA General Conference, a joint statement was signed between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United States of America on countering nuclear smuggling. Participants expressed their common commitment to support initiatives to counter smuggling of nuclear materials as outlined in the National Action Plan of the Republic of Tajikistan on the implementation of UNSCR 1540.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues in many parts of the world, including Central Asia. To date, the number of people infected in Kazakhstan has reached 18,765, in Uzbekistan - 6,755, in Tajikistan - 5,567, and in Kyrgyzstan - 3,726. This pandemic is a serious sustainable development, and the fight against this problem is possible only with the help of accurate data and knowledge.

On 7th March 2020, President of Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, academician Farhod Rahimi and Director of Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency AS RT, Ilhom Mirsaidzoda in order to implement provisions of paragraph 8 а), 9 d) and e) of National Action Plan of the Republic of Tajikistan on UNSCR 1540 implementation which is approved by Governmental Decree №54 from 9th February 2016, laid the first stone for the construction of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Forensics Center.

Environment UniverTest Testing Program
A.D. Saharov, the representative of the International Saharov Environmental Institute of Belarusian State University, Head of the Complex Automation Department within the period from January 23 to 27, 2017 had an expert visit to Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency Training Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan. The visit was undertaken within the framework of the implementation of the IAEA national project TAD/0/005 - "Introduction of postgraduate and master’s courses in the National Educational and Training Center"
Workshop on review of "Strategic Master Plan for the Rehabilitation of Uranium Heritage Territories in Central Asia" On January 12-13, 2017, at the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency Regional Training Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan was held a workshop on document review of "Strategic Master Plan for the Rehabilitation of Uranium Heritage Territories in Central Asia" prepared by the IAEA Coordinating Group (CGULS, IAEA).
European Union Supports Nuclear Security in the Republic of Tajikistan
Modern systems to detect trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials are installed at Tajik borders. Under the EU Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) the European Union has supported the Republic of Tajikistan with its Border Monitoring capabilities in Nuclear Security.
New equipment at the NRSA Technical Service Laboratory
NRSA Technical Services Laboratory received new equipment within the framework of the national project "TAD 1001 – Enhancing of Laboratory Capacities for Environmental Monitoring" of the IAEA Technical Cooperation. The equipment includes a modern alpha spectrometer and a gamma spectrometer from Canberra with Genie 2000 software and an electric cooling system. The set also includes laboratory accessories for sampling and storage. This equipment will be used to determine the content of radionuclides in environmental facilities (air, soil, and water) and other materials.
The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency (NRSA) of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission held a workshop on “Support of resolution and implementation of effective regulatory review of ionizing radiation sources in Tajikistan”.
Technical Meeting of U.S. Department of Energy experts with NRSA technical specialists
A technical meeting of experts of the U.S. Department of Energy with NRSA technical specialists of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and the State Enterprise "Radioactive Waste Disposal Site" to strengthen the infrastructure of the state enterprise "Radioactive Waste Disposal Site" was held in Dushanbe from May 19 to May 21. NRSA in cooperation with SE "Radioactive Waste Disposal Site" presented project proposals for financing, which were discussed during the meeting.
On January 24, 2014, an official ceremony was held to transfer mobile equipment and equipment to the directors of the Customs Service under the GRT and the Border Troops of the State Committee on National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan.

A training course was held from January 21 to 23, 2014. Training course on maintenance and repair of mobile detection systems and equipment for detection of illicit trafficking of nuclear and other radioactive materials took place in Nuclear and radiation safety agency under Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan from 13 to 17 January 2014.
On January 24, 2013, the laboratory of technical services of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency (NRSA), organized the safe transportation of 66 spent radioactive sources to the Republican radioactive waste disposal site. The procedure of transportation has been implemented within the framework of the signed work plan between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the United States of America in the field of prevention of smuggling of nuclear and radioactive materials.

IAEA mission on Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plan was held at the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency (State Regulatory Body) from December 10 to 12, 2012.
National IAEA training course on radiation safety in industry, November 12-16, Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
According to the Working Plan of IAEA national project, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan held a national training course on ensuring radiation safety in the industry from November 12 to 16, 2012. Representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, the Institute of Soil Science, the Tajik National University, the Institute of Geology and Seismology of Tajikistan and the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency participated in this training course.
The workshop aimed at providing member States with an overview of the IAEA methodology for establishing National Education and Training Strategy in radiation, transport and waste safety.
A regional workshop for Afghan and Tajik border guards, customs officers and radiation security regulators held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The course was conducted for staff directly carrying out control functions, and the main topic was “Training of trainers to courses on radiation detection techniques”
The training on carrying out inspections at medical enterprises, which use sources of ionizing radiation, was held in Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan (NRSA NANT) from March 5-9, 2012. An IAEA expert, Ms Zuzana Pášková from the Czech Republic, undertook a mission in Tajikistan.
COOPERATION COUNCIL FOR PEACEFUL USES OF NUCLEAR ENERGY UNDER THE EURASEC INTEGRATION COMMITTEE

EUROPEAN COMMISSION PROJECT ON "EQUIPPING BORDERS WITH PORTAL MONITORS"
The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency held a meeting with European Commission representatives from October 18 to 19, 2011.
IAEA Regional Training Course of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on "Methodologies for modeling the impact of radiation factors on the environment and the population" was held in Dushanbe from 26 to 30 September 2011. Representatives of Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Croatia, and Tajikistan attended the course.

JOINT ACTION PLAN ON COMBATING SMUGGLING OF NUCLEAR AND RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS
On 22 September 2010, a meeting was held in Conference-hall of “VEFA” center in Dushanbe between Government’s representatives of the United States of America and Tajikistan. During the meeting “Joint action plan on combatting smuggling of nuclear and radioactive material” was discussed .
Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency and Tajik State Medical University in cooperation with International Atomic Energy Agency conducted a national train-the-trainers course for lecturers of future Educational and Training Center on Radiation Protection in the frame of national project TAD/0/003 “Establishing a National Educational and Training Centre on Radiation Protection”, which took place from 28 June to 2 July 2010 in Khoja-Obi-Garm sanatorium. The participants of that training course were persons who were trained through IAEA training courses, fellowships and scientific visits.
The International Conference: “Addressing the Issues of Potential Terrorism and Guarding against Weapons of Mass Destruction in Central Asia” took place in Dushanbe.
